People who meditate do something like this. They create a little ritual for their meditation. They may light candles, sit in a specific place, or simply touch two fingers together. By doing this at the beginning of each session, they create a mental link between their ritual and the state of mind. They “anchor” their meditative state of mind to their ritual. And with continuous practice, they train themselves to flow into this state of mind every time they perform the ritual.

You can use this same method to train yourself to flow into a sensual state of mind each time you squeeze your sexual muscles. The technique is simple. All you have to do is 1) Start the exercises. 2) Recall a time when you were savoring the anticipation of an upcoming sexual encounter. As you recall this time, you’ll feel the anticipation return. 3) Continue to perform the Kegel exercises while savoring the feelings of anticipation.

You can also think of the Kegel exercises as ‘warm-up’ exercises. Think of a musician like a guitarist or a pianist. Musicians don’t start their practice with the most difficult compositions. They start with warm up exercises such as stretches, scales, or arpeggios. After a few exercises, the fingers are warmed up and ready to begin practice. The warm up exercises also create a state of mind which anticipates and facilitates better practice.

If you practice the Kegels just before sex, you will warm up your sexual muscles and create a link between the exercises and the anticipation of pleasure and intimacy. With regular practice, you can ‘anchor’ the feelings of anticipation to the exercises. Then performing the Kegels will help you recall these feelings and return to this sensual state of mind.
